Foil and String Art

Level: 3 - 6 years old

 

Materials:

Tag board, Drawing Pencils, White Glue, string, Aluminum Foil, Masking Tape.

 

Procedure:

Using tag board or packaging card, get students to pencil on a design (a simple scribble pattern is effective). Glue string or thick wool over the design to create a raised pattern. Place a sheet of foil over the card and fold and tape securely at the back. Use texters to colour in each section of the design , being careful not to tear the foil. The end results are a glowing success! (Texters are markers - Try the Gel Markers)

Foil Wrapping
Toddlers wrap silvery aluminum foil around cardboard shapes, pressing and pinching it to fit, discovering foil¹s unique gripping characteristics.

Materials
Heavy duty Aluminum Foil
cardboard or wooden shapes, or small boxes

Prepare
Tear a stack of aluminum foil squares and fan them out on the worktable.
Arrange cardboard shapes or small boxes on the worktable.

Process
Encourage the toddlers to wrap foil around cardboard shapes, pressing and pinching it to fit.
They can cover and wrap the shape until satisfied.

Toddler Tip
Toddlers like to stack their finished foil pieces into tall towers, enjoying how they tumble down again.

Variations
Provide brightly colored tape for toddlers to join shapes together.
Encourage the toddlers to stick their shapes to a background to make a 3-D collage with loops of Masking Tape.
